Campaign of the Month: January 2015
Skies of Glass
When advancing as a character, you often find old equipment to have too few uses or to be inferior to more advanced items. When you hit level 22 those Boots of Speed don’t seem to quite have the kick they used to – but those epic Boots of Swiftness sure are looking nice. Because both items have a Haste effect on them it is possible for the Boots of Speed to be “evolved” into the Boots of Swiftness. By using item evolution you can consume the Boots of Speed to reduce the cost of the Boots of Swiftness by the base cost of the Boots of Speed. You can also use item evolution to increase the number of charges or the caster level of an item. Alternately you can make a charged item a permanent duration item. You can also “advance” one spell into another similar spell: Detect Magic into Arcane Sight into Greater Arcane Sight, Fireburst into Greater Fireburst, etc.
In all cases, you consume the original item to reduce the cost of the new item by the base cost of the original item. This reduction is applied after calculating any additional costs.
