Skies of Glass
Crafters are beings born with the Crafter’s Spark, capable of gathering ambient Mana and storing it in the very core of their body and mind. This interaction radically changes how Crafters interact with magic, and often warps the very fundamentals of their body, allowing them to achieve feats far beyond their fellows. Further, Crafters are able to take this power and infuse it into physical items in order to create powerful magical items – called Crafter items. These Crafter items can be orders of magnitude more powerful than normal magical items, and far more varied in form and function. As a result, Crafters are often people of great power in Creed. Crafters are incredibly rare, and a population will rarely see more than one in 100,000 born with a Spark (though Sanctum is certainly an exception to this rule). With such unique power, Crafters often become great leaders among their people. However, Crafters most often try to keep knowledge of their ability to Craft to themselves, often due to a fear of persecution or a fear of being used by beings more powerful than them. Further, fear of having their powerful Crafter items stolen and legends about Crafters being captured by spellcasters and other powerful creatures and having their powers ripped from them also encourages many Crafters to stay silent. The descendants of Crafters are also of particular interest to those in power, as a Crafter’s children tend to retain some of their parent’s strengths and have a somewhat higher chance of possessing a spark themselves.
While the power of the Crafter’s Spark warps and empowers Crafters in many ways, granting the rare few truly awesome power, all Crafters are gifted in a few ways beyond the ability to create Crafter items.
- Crafters have the ability to grow in power and strength much more rapidly than most people. While there are those gifted with skill and strength, and those descended from Crafters and other figures of power, who can make similar advances, Crafters are universally the most gifted. This is reflected by Crafters requiring much less experience to advance and often draw more experience from encounters of all types. However, Crafters require direct conflict or dire emergencies to gain such experience, making training in anything less than lethal situations a nearly worthless undertaking for them past a certain point.
- Crafters are particularly hardy and receive maximized hit points for their hit dice.
- The Crafter’s Spark entwines the Crafter’s essence with mana in a deep and unique fashion, and as such Crafters respond to curative magics unlike most. This is reflected in the Crafter’s ability to be healed with magic when below zero hit points and to be raised from the dead with weaker magics than True Resurrection.
