Armor

Below are the rules for how armor functions, and what stacks and what doesn’t, and what you can enchant. Some of this is changed from possible interpretations in Core but because of the nature of the campaign I believe any changes to be a needed balancing factor.

Armor

You may gain armor from a number of sources. You may gain it from proper armor like Full Plate or Bracers of Armor. Only proper armor may have an armor crystal placed in it. Physical armor bonuses from multiple sources (such as Full Plate and Bracers of Armor) do not stack.

Mental Stat

You may only gain a single mental stat to your armor class regardless of the form in which it applies or where you get it from. If you would gain multiple mental stats to your armor you may choose which one to gain. You may not gain a shield bonus of any form to your armor while benefiting from a mental stat to your armor.

Shield

Shields function as normal except that you may not gain a shield bonus to your armor of any form while benefiting from a mental stat to your armor. Shield bonuses from multiple sources do not stack.

Natural Armor

A character may benefit from base natural armor (such as that gained from a race) and an enhancement to their natural armor (such as from an item). Multiple “gains a natural armor of X” do not stack and multiple sources of enhancement bonuses do not stack. Any ability or spell which specifically states “improves natural armor by X” stack with themselves and both base and enhanced natural armor.

Deflection

Deflection bonuses function as normal. Deflection bonuses from multiple sources do not stack.

Luck

Luck bonuses function as normal. Luck bonuses from multiple sources do not stack.

Sacred

Sacred modifiers function as normal. Sacred bonuses from multiple sources do not stack, but a sacred bonus and a sacred penalty can work against each other. Sacred bonuses and profane bonuses work against each other (for instance, a character with a +4 Sacred bonus to hit and a +5 Profane bonus to hit nets out with only a +1 Profane bonus to hit).

Profane

Profane modifiers function as normal. Profane bonuses from multiple sources do not stack, but a profane bonus and a profane penalty can work against each other. Sacred bonuses and profane bonuses work against each other (for instance, a character with a +4 Sacred bonus to hit and a +5 Profane bonus to hit nets out with only a +1 Profane bonus to hit).

Circumstance

Circumstance bonuses function as normal. Circumstance bonuses from multiple sources stack.

Competence

Competence bonuses function as normal. Competence bonuses from multiple sources do not stack.

Morale

Morale modifiers function as normal. Morale bonuses from multiple sources do not stack, but a morale bonus and a morale penalty can work against each other.

Insight

Insight bonuses function as normal. Insight bonuses from multiple sources do not stack.

Racial

Racial modifiers function as normal. Racial bonuses from multiple sources stack (such as from a base race and a racial template). Keep in mind this is not referring to natural armor, but other notes of increased armor. Racial bonuses to armor are very rare.

Size

Size modifiers function as normal. It is physically impossible for a character to benefit from more than one size modifier at a time.

Dodge

Dodge bonuses function as normal. Dodge bonuses from multiple sources stack.

Untyped

Untyped bonuses function as normal. Untyped bonuses from multiple sources stack.
