By manifesting this power, you generate a mystical suppression field, hindering the body’s ability to channel mana. A character must make a Fortitude save each time they attempt to cast a spell or use a spell-like ability within the area. On a failed save, using the spell or spell-ability ability in the area takes twice as long – a swift or immediate cast spell consumes the normal cast time plus requires an additional move action to finish, a standard cast spell takes a full-round to finish, a full-round or 1 round cast spell takes 2 rounds to finish, and so on. Additionally, a failed save makes the cast spell (but not a spell-like ability) require 4 more mana points to cast than normal. If two or more suppression fields overlap, the effects are not cumulative, a character simply makes one save against the highest of the saving throws imposed upon them.

A character is not aware that their spell has been affected by the suppression field until it would normally have been cast (for instance, after the standard action normally required to cast a standard cast spell). A character may choose to abandon their spell or spell-like ability after realizing their spell’s casting time and mana cost (in the case of a spell) would be increased because of the suppression field, but the normal mana required for the spell is still expended, the normal cast time of the spell is still consumed, and the caster suffers Mana Burn as if they failed to cast the spell (material components are not expended, however). If a caster cannot pay the additional mana required to cast their spell, they suffer the same effects as if they’d chosen to abandon their spell.

You are affected by your own suppression field just like everyone else within it, though you gain a +4 bonus on your saving throws against the spell’s effects. If you are subject to multiple overlapping suppression fields, you lose this bonus.

As part of the casting of this spell, you may burn an additional amount of mana up to double the highest level White or Blue spell you know while casting it. Every 4 mana points expended in this way increases both the range and radius of this spell’s area by 5 feet.
