Shatterstorm creates a blast of energy that disrupts magical items or magical artifacts, shutting off their mystical properties. Each magic item or magical artifact must make a successful Will save or be turned into a normal item for the duration of this spell. An item in a creature’s possession uses its own Will save bonus or its possessor’s Will save bonus, whichever is higher.

You can also use this spell to target a single item you’re currently touching (requiring a melee touch attack if not in your possession). The item gets a Will save at a -5 penalty to avoid being permanently destroyed. Notably, this use of shatterstorm does not actually make the spell a Touch range spell, so the spell cannot be held if the touch attack misses, nor can if be used with abilities such as the battlecaster’s Spellchannel nor can it benefit from the Reach Spell metamagic.

Legendary items and other objects of great power are unaffected by magic such as this.
