Skies of Glass
Orls occur in the softest rock as sharp-edged, spindle-shaped, symmetrical crystals. These crystals are of red, tawny, or orange hue, but rusty-brown-hued orls are the rarest and fetch the highest price (and are the only innately magical version or orl). Some orl aficionados prefer to wear the unfaceted, natural crystals rather than faceted cuttings, but most orls are finished into faceted forms.
It is rumored among alchemists that rusty red orl can make an extremely potent explosive. Supposedly, when powdered and mixed with powdered black opal and a few specific herbal ingredients, its introduction to an open flame results in a violent explosion that makes black kernels pale in comparison. Rusty brown orl is very reminiscent of some bull hide and the gem makes a decent augmentation in spells that deal with bovines and strength.
