Shield of the Ages
Forged of pure adamantine and ornamented with the highest quality mithral, this shield is a wonder to behold. The glowing crystal heart of the shield pulses faintly in time with lines of power woven into intricate artifice hidden on the back side of the shield. The Shield of the Ages
- Type: Artifact Heavy Shield
- Material: Adamantine (Good quality material); 20 Hardness, 27 Hit Points
- Craft check: 53
- Caster Level: 14
The wielder of the Shield of the Ages may expend any amount of mana to reduce all damage taken by one-half the amount of mana expended (rounded down) until the beginning of their next round. This mana may be expended as a free action usable only on the wielder’s round. Epic sources of damage or effects with a caster level equal to the wielder’s plus 10 bypass this resistance. Damage and effects cast from the fae may never bypass this resistance.
Elves wearing the Shield of the Ages may expend 8 mana to gain Spell Resistance equal to 5+their hit dice for 10 minutes. This spell resistance increases to 15+their hit dice against spells and effects generated by the fae. This mana may be expended as a free action usable only on the wielder’s round.
The Shield of the Ages was supposedly commissioned by the first Lord Daerwyn for his son and second in command of the elven armies, Crusius Daerwyn. Legends say that the shield was used in the front lines of dozens of battles with the enemies of the elves, most notably the fae, and kept Crusius alive through them all. No records exist of what happened to the fabled shield or its wielder that separated it from House Daerwyn.
